Dobro vece narode pcelarski.
Pcelarim nekoliko godina s, u medjuvremenu, vec nekih dvadesetak kosnica.
Pozdrav svima, Kreso.
Short summary of training mission to SOKOLAC (area of UBA-RS beekeepers association).
TRAINING IN SOKOLAC

The training started at 17.00 hrs and lasted till 20.00 hrs. After the break a number of participants left the meeting. The regional radio station made a news item of the training.
American Foul Brood (AFB)
The disease can be identified when brood cell-cappings are sunken and some are perforated. The disease is caused by the bacteria Bacillus larvae. The spores of Bacillus larvae can initiate the disease if they are digested by the bee larvae. The spores germinate in the intestine of the larvae. The bacteria grow and multiply there on the food fed to the larvae, perforate the intestine and multiply further in the tissue of the larvae. Infected larvae succumb in the closed cell. Millions of spores stay in the remains of the larvae.
The spores remain viable indefinitely on beekeeping equipment. The disease is spread from colony to colony by robbing and drifting bees, by the beekeepers practices and by contaminated instruments.
Treatment when diseased:
The best treatment is first to quarantine the colony. Then shed all the bees in an empty hive. Led them built free combs for a few days till they have spent all food. Remove the built combs and place foundation sheets and feed the bees with sugar syrup. The old combs and frames have to be burned. The hive should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
If AFB is recognized in an early stage it might be stopped as follows. Quarantine the colony from the apiary or bee stand. Burn the affected frames. Strengthen the colony with healthy closed brood frames.
We know that treatment of AFB with antibiotics is possible. It is often used by beekeepers all over the world. But in our country it is forbidden. Antibiotics do not belong to the hive. Beekeepers are responsible for this disease. They have to report immediately to governments inspection department. This department quarantines immediately a big area around the apiary and burn the affected hives. It is a great responsibility on the shoulders of the beekeepers to prevent a natural food like honey coming in contact with antibiotics.
If rests of antibiotics are found in honey foreign markets close for honey of your country.
It means that one irresponsible beekeeper can spoil the marketing prospects for all the others.
